What can High Tech High Chula Vista do to benefit the border region?

Well, as students, adults don't really see us as an authority or people who can be able to make change. And Kay wants us to write a blog about how HTHCV can benefit the border. So, honestly, on my way home, I couldn't think of anything.

So how could I change something....anything?

Personally, I'm very good at Service Learning and Community Service all just because I like to help people. I think I could change something just by something small like reading to children (like we did at the Otay Ranch Town center on Saturday) or also what we're doing for ASB, the toy drive. I think that toys or reading to someone makes people happy. And when people are happy, I believe that itself changes the world.

As a school, I think we should start with something small. I mean, we couldn't help people get visas or green cards. But we could raise money to help the needy. Or also like what we did in Math, have a canned food drive to go to the orphanage in TJ. Our school definitely has a lot of potential to do a lot to help others. And we are all really aware of that. I think we are all really fortunate for what we have and doing something small for someone else could change the world.

My favorite part:

"I think that toys or reading to someone makes people happy. And when people are happy, I believe that itself changes the world."

That is well said, and well thought. I like that you pushed yourself to come up with these ideas, and also took some inventory about your personal strengths.

I completely agree -- we can make a difference.
